CENTRAL INDIANA BICYCLING ASSOCIATION
CIBA Camping Rides

"More Fun Than Humans Should Be Allowed To Have"

CIBA camping rides are intended for the slightly more independent cyclist. Each rider is expected to carry his own camping gear. There are no sags, and no Dan Henrys. Each cyclist is provided with a map, and the ride leader takes care of campground reservations, which the club pays for.

Most of the camping rides are two day events. On Saturday we head to the campground, usually at a state park, then make the return trip on Sunday, generally by another route. Along the way we eat our meals at various restaurants & grocery stores along the route.

These rides are the most enjoyable & sociable which CIBA has to offer. If you would like to try a camping ride, but don't have panniers to carry your camping gear, contact Mike Crouch (317-889-0027) and he'll see if he can find some for you to borrow. He'll will also be glad to answer any questions you have about CIBA camping rides.

Here are CIBA's upcoming camping rides:

"Waveland Ride"
Date: Saturday April 6 & Sunday April 7, 2002
Length: 35 Miles each day
Ride Leader: Mark Cowser (317-849-7521)
Start Location & Time: Call Mark for details

This is a revisit of 2000's Waveland, Indiana ride. We will once again begin at North Salem, and take mostly flat, scenic roads to a private park near Waveland.

"McCormick's Creek Camping Tour"
Date: Saturday April 27 & Sunday April 28, 2001
Length: 42 Miles each day
Ride Leader: Robin Shields (317-831-7187)
Start Location & Time: Call Robin for details

This is a repeat of last year's ride from Mooresville to Indiana's original state park, McCormick's Creek. After riding about 42 miles on Saturday, we'll have a buffet dinner at the inn. Sunday's mileage will be about the same, after a buffet breakfast at the inn. Robin promises sunny weather & the usual tailwinds each day.

"Little Miami Camping Ride"
Date: Saturday May 25 & Sunday May 26, 2002
Length: 45 Miles each day
Ride Leaders: Karl Steegman (317-255-4283) & Dick Reed (317-257-6717)
Start Location & Time: Call for details

The ride will be an out-and-back primarily along the Little Miami Rail-to-Trail and connecting trails from the Montgomery County Fairgrounds to John Bryan State Park near Yellow Springs, Ohio. Nothing but flat, midwestern railroad grades. Lunch will be along the way, and dinner at one of many trendy restaurants in Yellow Springs. The park is small, wild and beautiful. Bring your hiking shoes to explore the canyon at the park's edge. No showers. A small parking fee is charged at the Fairgrounds.

"Johnson County Camping Ride"
Date: Friday June 21 & Saturday June 22, 2002
Length: 35 Miles each day
Ride Leader: Ed Pope (317-862-6460)
Start Location & Time: Call Ed for details

This will be a Camping Ride with a twist. We'll leave from Indy's south side on Friday evening around 6:00 p.m. and head to Johnson County Park, near Camp Atterbury. Front and rear lights will be required! After setting up camp, we'll head into Edinburgh for a Chinese Buffet. Saturday morning we will arise and venture towards Arthur's Roto-Grill in Amity for breakfast. We should arrive back at our starting point shortly after noon on Saturday. You can enjoy a Camping Ride and still have Sunday to rest up or take care of any chores around the house.
